A “Day Trip” to Stuttgart, Germany for Tanjong Pagar Residents

Residents from Tanjong Pagar GRC enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon decorating Christmas Trees, viewing entertaining performances, and doing their bit for charity.

Singapore, 5 December 2012 – Dr Chia Shi-Lu, Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC), and some 300 residents from Tanjong Pagar were special guests at the S-One Expo this afternoon. Spreading festive cheer, Dr Chia also led the residents from his GRC in a special mission – to decorate Christmas Trees, which will be donated to charitable homes and not-for-profit organisations.

Kicking-off the “S-One Deco-A-Tree for Charity” Competition

The activity kick-starts the “S-One Deco-A-Tree for Charity” competition, where members of the public can form teams of up to five to decorate Christmas Trees at the S-One Expo on Saturday, 8 December 2012, at 1 pm. Approximately 80 glittering Christmas Trees are expected to be given away to about ten not-for-profit organisations at the end of the competition. Each organisation also receives a cheque donation of S$2,000.00.

Giving back to the community

The “S-One Deco-A-Tree for Charity” competition is conceived by Stuttgart Singapore Pte Ltd, the Expo organiser, in support for the less privileged in community. The competition provides a fun and meaningful platform to engage with heart-landers and members of the public for a worthy cause. Members of the public who are keen to participate in the competition can register online at http://www.soneexpo.com/register.

As a token of appreciation for the spontaneous support by the enthusiastic residents of Tanjong Pagar this afternoon, the company presented a cheque of S$10,000.00 to the Queenstown Citizens’ Consultative Committee Community Development & Welfare Fund. The funds will be re-distributed to the needy and various social programmes supported by the constituency.

Commented Dr Chia at the end of the visit: “This has been a very enjoyable afternoon for the residents and volunteers from Tanjong Pagar GRC. Not only have we all been treated to many exciting activities here at this beautiful venue, we also caught a rare glimpse of Stuttgart’s vivacious culture and lifestyle. Most importantly, we all had fun exercising our creativity at decorating Christmas Trees while doing our bit for charity and the community.”

Mr Mark Tan, the company spokesman, said, “We are truly appreciative of the strong community support from the Tanjong Pagar GRC. It’s been heart-warming to see S-One Expo gaining a steady fan base and so many people joining in the activities today. We hope the small donations will go some way to kindle spirit and hope this Christmas. We also invite everyone to take this rare opportunity and experience the culture, food and technology of Stuttgart Germany at the S-One Expo.”

Counting down to the grand finale

Besides the chance to win up to S$500 worth of vouchers at the “S-One Deco-A-Tree for Charity” competition on 8 December 2012, visitors will also get to witness the assembly and unveiling of Singapore’s biggest Black Forest cake as part of the Expo’s grand finale on Sunday, 9 December 2012, from 2 pm onwards. The finished cake is expected to measure 8 meters by 1 meter.
